Performance Instruction

Ericsson Hatfield has over fifteen years of experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and instructor, teaching violin and coaching ensembles from beginner through professional levels. He is a co-founder of Insight Chamber Players and Consort Eureka. His pedagogy combines traditional instrumental training with analytical approaches informed by his work in composition and music theory.
Private violin instruction emphasizes technical development through études and repertoire, supplemented where appropriate by the study of counterpoint and musical form.
In chamber music coaching, Hatfield approaches interpretation through an examination of the composition's structure. Musical relationships inform decisions concerning phrasing and ensemble coordination, with the objective of rendering those relationships perceptible through performance.
Hatfield also offers violin and chamber music masterclasses.
Training
Hatfield studied violin at New York University with Cyrus Beroukhim, Stephanie Chase, Gregory Fulkerson, and Radim Kresta, and at the Meadowmount School of Music with Sally Thomas, Ann Setzer, and Steven Rochen.
